Olga Owens, Attorney at Law

thoughtful estate planning for your life story

Welcome!

My solo law practice is dedicated to approachable legal counseling for estate planning and probate management.

You can expect:

1) Ample time for collaboration: I meet with most of my estate planning clients for two consultations, plus Q&A via email, and a final signing meeting, for one fixed fee.

2) Jargon-free guidance: No matter who you work with, you need to understand what your plan says or what your executor obligations are (even if there is some required legalese!).

3) Honest counsel: Whether navigating a tricky family situation, or having an estate better served by a more specialized attorney, my role is to explain the best options for you.

My previous careers were in publishing and medical advocacy, and I bring an editorial eye and an understanding of life's curveballs to my legal work. I look forward to hearing from you!

Questions & Answers

What's included in an Estate Plan?

  • Last Will & Testament (may include simple trusts within the Will)

  • Durable Power of Attorney for Finances

  • Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare

  • [Durable Power of Attorney for Minor Children]

  • Living Will (Death with Dignity choices)

  • Notary services

How much do you charge?

Most estate plans are "flat fee," and include up to 3 hours of meetings, drafting time, plus a signing meeting.

  • Estate plan: $800

  • Estate plan with simple trust: $950

  • Couples' plan: $1,500

  • Single documents (notarized):

       Powers of Attorney: $75
       Living Will and consult: $50

  • Hourly (incl. probate):  $225/hour

What other legal services do you provide?

I work with Personal Representatives (Executors) as a probate attorney to open and close estates after a loved one has passed.

I also review existing estate documents and draft changes if desired.

Please note: I currently do not handle tax planning, litigation, or large estates (over $5M).

Can I do this myself online?

Yes, technically you can! And if you urgently need documents such as Powers of Attorney, the Northwest Justice Project is a good resource with DIY forms at Washington Law Help (English and Spanish).

What an online resource cannot do, however, is make sure that the document is written for your needs and preferences.
For example: Do you want your power of attorney to be immediate, or to be valid only when you are declared incapacitated? Do you know how to specifically list your real estate in a will? What about the pros and cons of dividing property a certain way or having co-agents or co-executors? I also provide documents for you to share with your chosen people so that they know what to do in order to carry out your wishes.
